Boris Bomstein was born on April 27, 1938 in Moscow. He graduated from the acclaimed Stroganov School of Arts and is a member of the Moscow Artists’ Association since 1990.
Boris is a talented and distinctive artist. He is always in search of the truth. His art reaches to the roots of human nature, his own self, problems and collisions that people face in life. “The search for the truth has no ending, but one has to keep on searching. I never give up my hope to find it”, he smiles. – “I think the age just adds fuel to this desire.” And that is true, over the years Boris’ works have become more imaginative, colourful and dynamic. Every stroke of the paint-brush, every touch on his canvases is not random; it has a lot of meaning.
Boris became seriously interested in art at the age of 14 when he saw paintings of medieval artists in the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow. Though he got enrolled into Stroganov School of Arts in 1950, there were still more than 30 years to go before he had his personal art exhibition. It took place only when the Soviet Union was on the urge of collapsing, in 1986. Now his art works can be found in the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, State Museum of Literature, State Museum of the East, State Theatrical Museum, State Museum of Moscow History, and private collections all over the world (Russia, Austria, Germany, Great Britain, Finland, Canada, France, Italy, Israel, and the US).
One of the main themes in Boris’ art is Moscow, representing many familiar places that reflect the soul of the city. Another set of paintings is dedicated to Israel and includes landscapes of sacred cities of Jerusalem and Zefat. A lot of his paintings are dedicated to the Jewish and Bible themes.
